EXPERIENTIAL GROCERY. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

What does EXPERIENTIAL GROCERY at Egro’ mean?

This is a question we get every time someone looks up at our shop front.

And we explain that it's not just another slogan, there’s meaning to Experiential Grocery.

Indeed, experience is one of the most effective forms of knowledge.

With my partner Alessandro, we have believed in the need to make food a cultural tool since we met.

Food in itself represents the synthesis of a series of practices:
  • the territory of origin of raw materials
  • the care in their cultivation
  • the methods of transformation
  • the impact these have on the environment
  • the social impact in terms of economy for the territory
  • the preservation of the final product
  • packaging
  • the supply chain from the product to our pantry
  • the most suitable communication for those who can choose whether or not to buy that product
  • the impact on our lifestyle and therefore on our well-being

Food is Culture.
But without a proper food culture, we may never be free to choose what is right for us.

Given that our professional and life experiences revolved around the themes of knowledge, learning, communication technology and communication in the service of people, when we decided to build our first shop, we thought from the start: it must be a sort of final touch point of all those (good) practices mentioned above.

It cannot just be a shop, that is, a tidy collection of products on the shelf, but it has to be a place of experiences.

We started wandering here and there, looking for something that looked like what we had in mind, until - at last - we found it.

So Egro' the First Experiential Grocery was born.

You can come in and ask our team for information, you can taste our products, you can use our podcasts to learn more about the origin of our products and thus learn how to use them best in your dishes, you can participate in our ongoing tasting events and cooking classes.
And soon much more. Because even though Alessandro and I are often in the shop, which for us is also a fundamental experience, we continue to design the development of Egro' to be more and more experiential and useful.

The centrality of experience was also emphasised during the Foodsystem 5.0 conference. Agritech | Mediterranean diet | community to which I was invited last week.
The Conference is part of the events of the FAO Science and Innovation Forum 2022 that starts today 17 October until Friday 21.

We cannot think of being passive in our food choices and we should always have the possibility to be informed in order to know more.

Knowing is up to each of us.
And we want to be the ones who make food knowledge fun and easily at hand.
